Indianapolis Monthly Magazine’s 2003 Dream Home Features Chadsworth’s Columns

WILMINGTON, N.C., August 26, 2003R.J. Klein and Associates, Inc., architect and builder of Indianapolis Monthly Magazine’s 2003 DREAM HOME selected Chadsworth’s 1.800.COLUMNS PolyStone® Columns to be used on the interior and exterior of this year’s fabulous Dream Home.

R.J. Klein has been designing and building fine homes in Indianapolis since 1969, and is known for his creative designs as well as the beautiful moldings and millwork in the homes he builds.  “He creates homes that will be the historic residences of the future,” says interior designer Debra J. Smith.

The entrance hall introduces many details that repeat throughout the home.  Simple white Tuscan columns similar to those outside the home feature prominently in the entrance hall and continue into the great room, the kitchen, the screened porch, portico and pavilion.  The living space is the epitome of sophisticated design for people who prefer classic lines but casual living.  With the traffic pattern of the house, it’s easy to accommodate gatherings for more than 50 people.  The Tuscan columns divide the room without detracting from its openness.

One Hundred and one Tuscan PolyStone® columns were used on the house, whose exterior is reminiscent of homes seen in Nantucket, with shaker shingles, Tuscan columns and pristine white trim. The Dream Home’s public spaces, including the great room, kitchen and dining room, pay homage to the era of grand family homes when large rooms satisfied both the formal and informal living needs of the homeowners.

The Dream House benefits the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana, and has raised more than $500,000 for the group.  Over 65,000 visitors are expected to tour the home while it is open to the public.

Murray Construction Company of Wilmington To Build ‘Chadsworth Cottage’

Murray Construction Company of Wilmington, NC has been selected to build The Period Homes Show House, Chadsworth Cottage, on Figure Eight Island, near Wilmington, NC.

The Period Homes Show House, Chadsworth Cottage, is devised to demonstrate that it is possible to build a traditional home, staying true to classical architecture, using readily available products. For this classical Southern home, the design has been kept simple and straightforward; the goal of simplicity reflects the desired economy as well as the character of North Carolinian architecture.

“We selected Murray Construction Company for several reasons’ says Jeffrey L. Davis, Founder and Principal Designer of Chadsworth’s 1.800.COLUMNS and a major sponsor of the Show House, “the company’s longevity, their history and experience of building on Figure Eight Island, and their willingness to work as a partner in the Show House”.  “We know that Murray Construction will maintain the desired quality and integrity of the project”, says Davis.

Because the Cottage will be built on the ocean, special measures must be taken. The Cottage will be built on timber pilings and different methods for building will be required.  Materials that will stand up to the elements must be selected. The landscaping and plant materials chosen must be able to withstand the salt, wind, and intense sun.  These are just a few of the problems that need to be solved prior to starting the project.

Readers of Period Homes Magazine will be involved in the project from start to finish.  There will be articles in the magazine as the house progresses, and readers will be able to contact the Period Homes website with questions and comments.  It is going to be an interesting project, one where we will learn together, and have fun in the process.

When completed, the Period Homes Show House will be open to the public to benefit the St. John’s Museum and other local charities.
